| 1. TRAVEL TO ORPHEUS &
BACCHUS Prices are exclusive of travel costs since many clients prefer to
drive. For those who wish to fly, low-price airline Ryanair operates flights (from
£40 return) from London Stanstead, Liverpool and Nottingham to Bergerac, British
Airways operates from Gatwick to Bordeaux. FlyBE flies from Southampton, Bristol, Exeter,
Leeds/Bradford and Norwich, BMIBaby flies from Birmingham and Manchester. Eurostar/TGV via
Paris or Lille is an attractive and low-stress form of travel and brings you to Libourne
(about£100 return). Car hire is available from Bordeaux, Bergerac and Libourne.
Having your own car will give you the opportunity to bring back quantities of excellent
value wines! We are not a tour operator
but will be happy to assist you make the best travel arrangements.
Clients travelling by air can be met at Bordeaux
Merignac or Bergerac, those by TGV at Libourne. Bergerac & Libourne are recommended.
The cost of these transfers is £35 per person each way (Merignac) and £20 each way
(Libourne and Bergerac)
BY CAR
The best access to France is by Eurotunnel,
which has regular (15-30 min. intervals typically) drive-on departures from Folkestone. It
takes 35 minutes to Calais. Then the route is via Rouen, Chartres, Tours, Poitiers and
Angouleme. Driving distance from Calais is 525 miles, of which more than half is dual
carriageway. Typical driving time 8-9 hours from Calais, motorway tolls about £20.
We can provide recommendations for overnight hotel stops.
BY TRAIN
The simplest route is via Lille. Leave
Waterloo at 8.21 am, arrive at Libourne at 17.28. Fares from £110 return. Very relaxing,
great countryside to see, the French TGV trains are superb. Return leaving Libourne
at 12.28, arriving London in the evening.
Alternative is via Paris, its quicker, but involves a 30
minute underground trip. Opportunity to stay in Paris on either leg.
CAR HIRE
Inexpensive cars can be hired from Libourne or Bordeaux.

2. PARTY SIZE
& ACCOMMODATION
Guests will stay in one of our houses, Le
Faure, La Musique, L'Orangerie, Le Presbytère and La Grange. All rooms have their own
bathroom or shower-room. The last two houses are a short distance away and clients will be
picked up and returned. For on-site accommodation early booking is recommended. Maximum
number of guests is 60. |
3. SINGLES
There is a price supplement staying at Le Faure
when the venue is full. Double occupancy guests have priority at the concert site. |
4. DRESS
Dress will be casual during the day but is
expected to be smart casual for the dinners and concerts. |
5. MEALS
Clients will be provided with a buffet
continental breakfast in each house, dinners and concerts will take place in
L'Orangerie and La Musique respectively. |
6. WINES AT
TASTINGS AND DINNERS
It is important to understand the quality of
wines that will be tasted and provided with dinner. The evening dinner wines will include
wines from e.g. Pauillac, St.Julien, Margaux, Emilion, Graves, Pomerol or
Lalande-de-Pomerol and local appellations. Vintages typically range from 1983 to 2003. We
specialise in large bottle sizes for added quality and interest. |
7. ITINERARIES
Clients are welcome to
"do-their-own-thing" during the daytime if they so wish. Each day has an
itinerary, typically including château visits, tastings and lunch, or a visit to a site
of interest. The cost of these itineraries is additional. |
8. BUYING WINE
There will be plenty of opportunities to buy
excellent wines at prices often 50% below those in the UK. Obviously a car is a great
advantage, but we have been able in the past to arrange transport back to the U.K. for
clients' purchases. |
9. MENUS
We aim to have excellent menus that complement
the wines. Our resident chef is again Georges Gotrand. Of course the cheeses of
France will not be ignored.. Special diets must be notified to us on the booking form. |
10. SMOKING
Smoking is not permitted in the Orpheus & Bacchus properties
at any time. |

11. HOW TO
BOOK
Please call us if you have any queries and to
check availability. Then fill in the booking form and return it to us with a cheque for
the deposit. (We also accept credit cards).
We will confirm your reservation by return and
send you an information pack. The final balance is due eight weeks before departure and
bookings made within eight weeks of departure are payable in full on booking.
You must take out travel insurance with medical
emergency assistance, 3rd party liability and cancellation cover. |
