The Setting Le Faure is set in 14 acres of its own land, in Entre-deux-Mers, one mile from the ancient village of
Gensac, ten miles from Ste.Foy la Grande and Castillon and just 20 minutes from the beautiful and historic wine town of
St.Emilion. In beautiful undulating wine-growing countryside the house forms one part of a large grassed courtyard and has
a very large terrace with superb views over its own valley.
The House An elegant country house with origins in the 17th century, completed in 1793, and in one family’s
ownership until 1999 when we bought it. An exceptional restoration has been carried out, retaining the "time-warp of the
19th century" character where practical, but discretely adding the requirements of 21st century living. Le Faure is
approached by its own driveway. The views eastwards from the large terrace and pool, over a valley of our own land, are
stunning. The entrance to the house is directly from the terrace into the hall (22 sq.m with high ceiling), which looks
onto the large enclosed courtyard. Stairs lead down into the large wine cellar, hewn out of rock, under the house. It is a
great place for evening wine-tastings for clients. Ground floor: The house is entered via a double stone
staircase on the valley side. High double french doors lead into a spacious central foyer, off which are the sitting
room, dining room and kitchen. The sitting room is characterized by its beautiful in-built antique armoires and enjoys a
triple aspect view over the valley, gardens and courtyard. It is tastefully furnished with antique and modern furniture,
large sofas and armchairs, fireplace, and is equipped with widescreen TV, CD and DVD player, plus a home cinema system.
To the other side of the foyer is the beautiful dining room featuring an antique cherrywood table that seats 16 easily.
Built-in antique armoires and the original fireplace add warmth and elegance to the room. Beyond the dining room is an
impressive, stone-walled vaulted kitchen with many of its original features in place including an ancient stone fireplace.
The fully equipped kitchen includes a large cast iron Godin cooker, American fridge with icemaker, microwave, dishwasher,
double sink, plus plenty of workspace. Doors from the kitchen lead onto the terrace and courtyard. There is a laundry room
with washer and dryer. First and second floors: A winding staircase provides access to 5 bedrooms (4 doubles, 1
twin) on the first floor and three twin-bedded rooms on the second floor. All rooms are tastefully decorated with
antique and modern furniture and designed for comfortable holiday living. There are eight modern and fully equipped
bathrooms or shower-rooms, and a separate WC on the ground floor. The bedrooms have retained their original features, some
with baldequin beds, fireplaces and oak beams. Each room offers beautiful views either over the valley or the courtyard.
There is a small sitting room on the second floor. All linen and towels are supplied. Housecleaning, babysitting, and a
chef are available as optional extras at separate cost upon request. Please ask us about Orpheus and Bacchus Gourmet
which offers a live-in chef. The house has full oil-fired central heating, oil is a separate charge between 15th
September and 15th May.
Outside: A large terrace spans the complete east and south side of the house overlooking the valley. Secure pool
(5m by 10m). Tables, chairs, parasols, sunloungers and 2 BBQs. Guests can enjoy walks into the valley, over half a mile
long, with its stream and lovely "Constable countryside". Table tennis, shared use of the tennis court, croquet lawn and
boules court. Riding, golf, canoeing, fishing, boat and bicycle France are all nearby. |
